    Floris Jespers was a master of diverse artistic talents being a painter in oils and watercolours - not only on traditional surfaces but also favouring eglomisé - fresco painter, tapestry designer, sculptor and graphic designer.


    He was born in Borgerhout in 1889 and was the son of the sculptor Emile and the brother of the sculptor and engraver Oscar. Floris undertook his artistic instruction under Franz Courtens in L'Académie d'Anvers and also L'Institut Supérieur des Beaux-Arts.

    He had also studied music and for fifteen years he played cello in the orchestras at the theatre and in music halls.
    Initially he painted in an Impressionistic style and the influence of Rik Wouters is discernible, but then between 1919 and 1920, he gravitated to geometric abstraction and cubism which in turn evolved into Flemish expressionism which he employed until 1930.

    This style of painting involved blending several art
