Giovanni Battista Monteggia (1762 – 1815) was an Italian surgeon.[1] The Monteggia fracture is named after him.

Early life
Giovanni Battista Monteggia was born in Laveno, near the Lago Maggiore (northern Italy) on August 8, 1762.
