more This chapter focuses on a luxury textile produced in the second half of the 13th century and presented as a gift to an Italian embassy from the Republic of Genoa, which had visited the Byzantine emperor in Nikaia to negotiate a diplomatic treaty.
The author chose this object here because it is one of the few surviving portable objects that must have played an important role in its historical context.
